Mission Statement

The Finance Club seeks to accomplish its goal of successful placement and preparation of Fuqua students for finance-related careers through four main channels:

Professional:
The Duke MBA Finance Club is committed to ensuring students are well-informed in their decision to pursue a career path within the broad field of finance- be it Investment Banking, Private Equity, Sales & Trading, Corporate Finance, or Private Wealth Management- and are then fully prepared to secure an internship or full-time position. For example, the annual Finance Symposium, which occurs in the first month of each academic year, brings professionals from a broad spectrum of industries and companies to campus to discuss their career paths with students in an intimate setting. Combined with club-organized recruiting prep sessions such as the Investment Banking Roadmap series, the Finance Club ensures all resources- including alumni, second-year MBA’s, and the Career Management Center- are being effectively utilized to maximize placement of students in their careers of choice.

Academic:
With a world-class faculty and top-ranked finance curriculum, the Duke MBA program prides itself in training MBA’s to be intellectually equipped for careers in finance. However, understanding that the academic experience extends beyond the classroom, the Finance Club seeks to enhance the overall educational experience through supplemental workshops and classes, such as the Training the Street (TTS) workshops offered on campus. The Duke Center for Finance (DCF) initiative is one example of a collaborative effort between faculty, administration, and students to leverage the expertise and resources of professors and alumni outside of the classroom, through participation in interview preparation and weekly market discussions. Additionally, the Duke MBA Finance Club facilitates a constant flow of communication between the students and faculty to ensure courses are addressing the ever-changing needs of future finance professionals.

Social:
One of the most powerful resources offered by the Duke MBA is its vast and ever-growing global alumni base. The Finance Club seeks to ensure that relationships between students and alumni continue to strengthen, while informing alumni of the changing needs of each new class of MBA’s. The annual NYC alumni cocktail, held each year during Week on Wall Street (WOW) at the Public House, is one example of the Finance Club’s efforts to develop such a forum of communication in a casual atmosphere. Additionally, with top-ranked graduate programs in Medicine, Law and Public Policy located just a stone’s throw away from Fuqua’s campus, the Finance Club periodically organizes cross-school events to maximize the strength of the Duke MBA’s network.

Brand:
Understanding the importance of brand in the business world, the Finance Club is committed to ensuring that the right message about Duke MBA’s is communicated to recruiters and the professional world through various marketing venues, including the club website. The Duke MBA program prides itself in producing professionals who are not only equipped with the analytical and business skills required to excel the field, but demonstrate the values of a leader of consequence- someone who is able to deal simultaneously with complex matters and engage skillfully with colleagues, clients, and community.
